Because We Say So – The Rumor Mill

by andres on Jan.09, 2008, under Headline News, Interesting Stuff, Previews

Remember how a while ago, soda makers said video games make kids fat? Well, now McDonald’s–McDonald’s, which peddles lousy, unhealthy food that gives me three different kinds of illness whenever I eat there and was the main focus of the documentary Supersize Me–is accusing games of the same.

I’m not sure how to react to this. I guess I should be upset, but I’m more amused than anything.

Also… Darth Vader and Yoda. In Soul Calibur IV. I didn’t know how to think about this for a few minutes, and then I decided it was awesome. As awesome as this picture.

Awesome

New footage of PS3 Naruto project – PS3 Fanboy

by andres on Dec.26, 2007, under Headline News, Previews

It’s Christmas time, and there’s too many games to be played. I have a Playstation 3.So, in order to celebrate and actually post something, here’s a close-up detail video of the amazing visuals being presented for the Naruto PS3 project.

We Heard It First

by andres on Dec.19, 2007, under Headline News, Previews

While I work on longer blog posts that I can’t finish today, here’s some neat news.

Duke Nukem Forever (4Ever!) has finally been “announced”, which I assume means it’s almost complete since they’ve been working on this thing for 10 years or more.

Perhaps record-breaking for the amount of time spent in development (my game will break this record–it’s ongoing since 2001), Duke Nukem Forever promises to be just like any other Duke Nukem game.

And yet completely different.

But I suppose that’s a good thing.

[Edit] Here’s the new teaser trailer, which says less than nothing about the actual game. I will embed it in my blog as soon as I get this stupid post to WordPress button installed. I had a VodPod button until I realized OH, I CAN POST DIRECTLY TO WORDPRESS. Now I can get rid of that little widget on the side nobody’s noticed.

Oh, and here’s the old 2001 preview video. Of course, the game is completely different by now. So I think any old previews are bound to be irrelevant. But there’s dragons and aliens and explosions, and that’s always good.

And because Digg apparently isn’t a reliable source, here’s the head honchos at GamesRadar saying the same things

This post is up here by Jimmy’s request. Be happy, Jimmy.

But… It’s a Naruto Game

by andres on Dec.12, 2007, under Previews

Just a quick moment to talk about pretty things, like the new Naruto PS3 Project that looks absolutely incredible. But, as I mentioned to my best friend, “It’s a Naruto game,” which automatically makes me skeptic.

However, there’s plenty more that has me tense and excited, from the list of already-announced PS3 newcomers (MGS4, LittleBigPlanet, FFXIII, Killzone 2) to a few new possible exclusives such as Prototype, an amazing-looking game by Sierra (yay Sierra) which is literally every daydream fantasy I’ve ever had (minus the sex) in one; Afro Samurai, which makes me squeal with pleasure and anticipation as I watch the trailer (please come out for PS3); and, of course, the glorious new Street Fighter IV screenshots.

We’ll see some glory soon enough. 2008 is promising to be the most expensive year in a while. And I want to play all these games bad.

Oh, and Blizzard sounds like it’s up to something. A new MMO perhaps? God forbid.

Of All Things

by andres on Nov.30, 2007, under Personal News, Previews

They’re actually making a Wii game I want to buy.

http://kotaku.com/gaming/clips/japanese-chocobos-dungeon-trailer-delights-328710.php

Fancy that. I wish it were on PS3.

But hey, my brother has a Wii. I guess that works. For now.

I can’t resist Chocobos.

P.S. “Wark” sounds nothing like the sound effects chosen for chocobos… I have no idea where they get it.

Several Articles and Final Fantasy Somehow Thrown In

by andres on Nov.29, 2007, under Game Criticism, Headline News, Previews

Here’s a quick blurb on he news:

So there’s all this news this morning about various interesting things. We popped out of the dark ages of waiting for Rock Band, it seems. Anyway, Brenda Brathwaite already beat me to the punch for writing about a report put out by the University of Michigan. Only I read it on Gamasutra, so I feel special, and here it is.

As I have nothing more interesting to say on the subject than what has been said (by Brenda), let’s look at what Nintendo says about Western development and how they’re not planning on increasing it. As a Western-based game designer, this sucks for me. There’s a lot of untapped resources in the West, too–plenty of able and capable designers that can be just as effective as those found in Japan. It’s a little painful to see Nintendo limiting its resources and letting third-party games handle targeting the western market. Especially when you look at the top Wii sales, and see what developer is behind each game…

1

Wii Sports
Nintendo 53 421,419 6,695,293

Super Mario Galaxy

Nintendo 2 417,301 1,106,571

Wii Play Nintendo 41 155,795 3,037,050

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Activision 4 110,685 549,276

Mario Party 8 Nintendo 26 71,749 1,458,651

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Nintendo 3 70,403 210,904

Link’s Crossbow Training Nintendo 1 66,758 66,758

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles Capcom 2 65,078 183,187

Soul Calibur: Legends Namco 1 48,761 48,761

Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 Ubisoft 2 44,921 94,015(http://www.vgchartz.com/aweekly.php?date=39411&console=Wii&maker=&boxartz=1)

I’d like to point out, slots 1-7 excluding Guitar Hero III which is a console of its own (what with that guitar) are all made up of Nintendo, Nintendo, Nintendo.

It’s my theory Nintendo titles will continue to sell the Wii–and Western talent at NOA will never get a chance to develop for that audience.

Also, Final Fantasy XIII. Maybe the best yet? It sounds like a refined FFXII, which I approve of. I think FFXII could have used a lot of work.
