@Nebulous: Very well said. I enjoy the PSN games very much as well--games like Super Stardust and Everyday Shooter, which are simplistic, casual and yet wonderfully fun. Xbox Live Arcade has a similar library of interesting, quirky games (Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball comes to mind) but comes with the disadvantage of a priced service as well as the cost of purchasing games. I'd rather have a free service where I can selectively buy cool games for a cheap prices. I mean, this is someone who technically can't afford the PS3--you know I'm going to appreciate not having to pay for anything else about it.

Late comment here, but great post, so I had to. The PS3 is great for late arrivals to the next-gen scene, such as myself. I have a seven year old PC, which kept me satisfied up to this year; able to play through Oblivion and HL2. But mostly, I was a CS:S addict and didn't need any other games for a long time.

What finally drew me back to console gaming was the absence of mods and hacks. I was tired of tweaking config files and dealing with hackers in online titles. The consoles offered what I considered a pure gaming experience.

When I finally did my research on the next-gen consoles, I found the PS3 to be my favorite. This was due to things like free online service and gameplay, the Blu-Ray player, Bluetooth device support (I can use my cell phone headset as a mic for chat or online games), the upgradable hard drive, and the upcoming titles. All this for the new price of $400, which is what it would cost just to upgrade my PC's video card.

I am in love with my PS3, but that doesn't mean I hate the XBOX. The hate thing is a primitive herd mentality where people base their self-esteem on what group they belong to, or how well-liked they are by others. Of course, this means the PS3 now sucks because it's not a clique they belong to.

The PS3 has great downloadable games and demos, which you can have downloading while you play another game. "Pain" and "Snakeball" were fantastic for $10 each and I have spent hours playing both. As far as regular titles, I only have Oblivion and COD:4 and those take up all my free gaming time. An online FPS without mods or hacks? Oh yeah!
